GRETCHEN’S background as a well-known wallpaper and fabric designer has served her well in her transition to photography.

As the owner of Sable Studios she has designed for internationally known firms including Springs Mills, Seabrook Wallcoverings, Tobin Home Furnishings, The Danbury Mint, Save the Children and many others. Turning from the paintbrush to a camera, her heartfelt imagery harkens back to her design background as she focuses on pattern, texture and above all, color in her creations. Specializing in images of Italy, classic Cleveland, the Chautauqua N.Y. region, food/wine and nature, Gretchen’s photography captures the simple joys of life which are all around us but often go unnoticed. Her well loved 2009 “Colors of Life” wall Calendar was sold in many of  the major bookstore chains across the country. One customer commented “It’s as though she is painting with a camera!”

Using a manual 35mm Ricoh camera until just recently, Gretchen still does not choose to alter any of her work in Photoshop, preferring to offer the viewer the pure image exactly as she has captured it. She is particularly enthralled with the lovely Chautauqua New York region and opened her own gallery in the Chautauqua Institution two years ago, this year expanding considerably and moving into the space which previously housed Kopper Korner Gifts, in the historic Colonnade on the Plaza.

In addition to greeting cards, prints and canvas giclees, her work

is now featured on such unique items as,

lampshades, night lights, coasters, mugs,
